My Story

Dr. Steve Siegal is a fellowship trained bariatric and upper GI surgeon. Originally from Naples, he graduated from the University of Miami in 2008. He then received his medical degree from the University of Florida in 2013. Dr. Siegal then pursued his general surgery residency at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. It was there where his interest in minimally and non-invasive surgery blossomed. In addition to clinical training with some of the forefathers of minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery, Dr. Siegal published many research papers focused on hernia surgery, esophageal cancer, and reflux disease. While in Portland, Dr. Siegal had the privilege of working with eminent endoscopic and minimally invasive surgeons.

Following his general surgery residency, Dr. Siegal pursued a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, endoscopic and bariatric surgery at Penn State University where he focused on advanced surgical endoscopy. This training prepared him to build the first endoscopic bariatric program in his first position out of training, bringing procedures and techniques to a hospital system that had never been seen before, such as endoscopic gastric bypass revisions for patients seeking to lose more weight after previous bariatric surgery. As a Founding Member of the American Foregut Society, Dr. Siegal passionately contributes to and offers the premier therapies in gastroesophageal care. He has had the distinct honor of hosting the following American Foregut Society national webinars: Gastroparesis, Achalasia, Barrett’s Esophagus and Esophageal Cancer

Dr. Siegal carries the following certifications: SAGES Flexible Endoscopy, Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery, Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery, Fundamental Use of Surgical Energy, Intuitive Robotic Surgery, Stop the Bleed, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. He additionally serves on the Association for Bariatric Endoscopy Board in the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Clinical Practice Committee in the American Foregut Society, and the Flexible Endoscopy Committee in the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He also is a professional medical expert witness in his field of expertise, having reviewed many cases.
