Dr. Steve Siegal is a board-certified, fellowship-trained bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgeon, known for his expertise in advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures. He has dedicated his career to helping patients achieve lasting health improvements through safe, effective surgical and non-surgical techniques.

My Story: From Naples to National Recognition

Originally from Naples, Florida, Dr. Siegal began his journey in medicine with an undergraduate degree from the University of Miami in 2008. He earned his medical degree from the University of Florida in 2013, and then completed his general surgery residency at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR — a pivotal experience that shaped his deep interest in minimally and non-invasive GI surgery.

While in Portland, Dr. Siegal trained with some of the most respected pioneers in gastrointestinal surgery. During this time, he also contributed to the academic field with numerous research publications on hernia surgery, esophageal cancer, and reflux disease.

Advanced Fellowship Training in GI & Bariatric Surgery

Following residency, Dr. Siegal completed a prestigious fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, endoscopic, and bariatric surgery at Penn State University. His training focused heavily on surgical endoscopy, preparing him to launch innovative programs and bring cutting-edge procedures to hospital systems.

In his first post-training role, Dr. Siegal founded the first endoscopic bariatric program at his institution, introducing groundbreaking procedures such as endoscopic gastric bypass revision — designed to help patients who had previous weight loss surgery and needed further support.

As a Founding Member of the American Foregut Society, Dr. Siegal is deeply involved in shaping the future of gastroesophageal surgery. He has hosted several national webinars for the society, covering key topics such as:
